Have you ever looked at someone absolutely crushing it in the wedding industry and thought, “Okay, but they’re different.”

One of our favorite conversations from this week’s podcast was about making the shift from “why me?” to “why NOT me?”

Because the photographers and filmmakers booking the weddings you want aren’t inherently more deserving of them. They didn’t receive some secret invitation into the luxury wedding market. And they definitely didn’t all start with the perfect portfolio, connections, brand, or pricing.

They decided to go after it.

Our guest this week, wedding filmmaker Taylor Nichols, literally filmed her first wedding for $10. She went on to shoot 45 weddings in a single year, burned herself out, and eventually realized that working MORE wasn’t going to build the business or life she actually wanted.

Something needed to change.

And yes, there were tangible changes. She elevated her brand, became much more intentional about her Instagram, changed how she showed up on wedding days, invested in education, raised her prices, and started positioning herself for the clients and planners she actually wanted to work with.

But underneath all of those changes was something bigger.

She started believing she was capable of more.

This is something we see over and over again with wedding photographers and filmmakers trying to break into the luxury market. Sometimes the biggest thing keeping you stuck isn’t your work.

It’s continuing to operate like the version of your business you’re trying to outgrow.

There comes a point where you have to stop waiting until you feel 100% qualified, confident, connected, or “ready” and start making decisions based on where you want to go.

You’re allowed to want bigger weddings.

You’re allowed to charge more.

You’re allowed to walk into rooms where you don’t know everything yet.

You’re allowed to look at someone doing exactly what you want to do and think, “Why NOT me?”
