In this episode, we’re doing something a little different. We’re recording together from the car for episode two of our Car Chats series… slightly unhinged, a little all over the place, but still packed with the kind of conversations we know you actually need to hear.
And today, we’re diving into a concept that has shaped so much of our growth over the years… the idea of “overpaying” in your business.
Not just financially, but with your time, your energy, your willingness to go further than what feels normal.
We’re sharing real stories from the early days… shooting weddings for next to nothing just to build experience, saying yes to everything, investing in education, and the moments where we overpaid without a strategy and saw nothing from it.

There’s a point in your business where you realize… doing everything “right” still isn’t getting you where you want to go.
That’s exactly what we’re talking about in this episode.
We dove into got into the idea of “overpaying” in your business, and not just financially but overpaying with your time, your energy, your effort. Being willing to do more than what’s required before you feel “ready” to and even when it doesn’t seem fair on paper.

One of the biggest shifts we’ve seen, both in our own journey and with our students, is realizing that the early years aren’t about making the most money. They’re about building momentum. That can look like taking on more weddings than feels comfortable, spending extra time refining your work, or saying yes to opportunities that don’t immediately pay off.
We also talked about something that doesn’t get said enough… overpaying only works when you’re intentional about it.
On the flip side, when you are intentional, everything starts to stack. That is when it starts to feel fun! It all builds on itself in a way that’s hard to see at first, but eventually changes everything.

We also chat openly about the things that actually separate you at the next level. The things most people skip. Taking the extra time on your edits. Going a little further than what’s expected. Thinking long term instead of just trying to make the quick $300 today.
Because the truth is, most people are unintentionally playing the short game. But you aren’t “most people.”
If you’ve been feeling stuck, we encourage you to zoom out a bit. To look at where you’re spending your time and ask yourself if it’s actually moving you forward.
